Vermicompost Update: Leek Growing

I'm looking for advice here. I have a leek sprout in my compost bin. It's from the end of a leek I put in there 3-4 weeks ago (not thinking it would start growing again, although that's always a possibility). It's already a few inches long. I'd like to maybe put it outside in some soil, but I suspect if I want good leeks (if that's even possible) I need to trim it back somehow... Any green thumbs passing through, I'd be grateful for your input. I'll probably be planting my (tiny) vegetable garden in a couple of weeks, and that's easy enough (I hope), but is it possible to get more leeks out of the end of a leek?
